Release Week Wrap-up

I can’t believe it’s already been eight days since Soulmatch’s release! It was SUCH an incredible week! Literally would not have changed a single thing!!
My launch party was held at Fleetwood Farm Winery on launch day, July 29th, but the first surprise came earlier when my childhood friends, who live in Oregon, Florida, and west of Richmond, showed up at lunch. I usually get an inkling when my husband is up to something, but he, my sister, and bestie were super stealthy that morning. I was honestly shocked speechless!
My friends’ arrival managed to quell my nerves, as did all the congratulatory messages coming through texts, social media, and email. I could barely keep up with them! But I think/hope I responded to you all!
The event itself was magical. The crowd dressed in red and white per instructions—just like Sivon wears for most of Soulmatch! We had wine, snacks, and custom fortune cookies to tell people who they were in their past lives. A medium painted watercolors of the guests’ auras, just like Sivon’s mom does! The energy in the room was positively vibrant, making my conversation with Constance Sayers so fun.

Over the following days, I stopped into a few local booksellers to sign stock and had my first bookstore table signing at the Fairfax Barnes & Noble! The booksellers and shoppers were so friendly! I sold out of copies!
To close out the week, I flew into Nashville for a conversation with Julian R. Vaca at Parnassus Books—Ann Patchett’s bookstore! I was surprised (again!) to find one of my former colleagues had driven four hours to attend the event! Soulmatch is the Parnassus Next (YA book club) August book selection! They were incredible!!

Speaking of Amazon, for a good portion of last week, I had an orange banner for “Top New Release in Teen & Young Adult Dystopian!” My first orange banner!!! It’s still there for the audiobook! I also made it into the top 50 bestsellers in that category (a super tough category because it includes all the dystopian favorites - Hunger Games (and its many special editions), Divergent, Scythe, Shatter Me, etc. I was downright amazed to see my book hanging out with my idols’ books!
Y’all, the audiobook is flipping amazing. The narrator, Gilli Messer, was THE PERFECT CHOICE for Sivon. Check out this video of me, my husband and sister listening to the intro the morning of Soulmatch’s launch. 😭

Tomorrow morning (Thursday, August 7th), my interview with News4 Today on WNBC in Washington, DC will air! Shorter snippets will play during the 4, 5, and 6am news cycles with longer interview playing sometime around 11:30am. Set your alarm clocks! Thankfully, the interview was prerecorded, so the hard part is over. 🤗
